He currently has the IBF Super Middleweight title belt around his waist and was named fighter of the year by Ring Magazine in 2018. Canelo Alvarez is a Mexican super star who has held world titles in 5 weight divisions. He is currently the unified WBA (Super), WBC, Ring Magazine and lineal middleweight champion of the world.

One of the most decorated boxing stars of all time. With a 44-1-1 record with 34 KOs, his only loss came in 2013 against Floyd Mayweather Jr by majority decision (114-114, 117-111, 116-112). He has won world titles at light middleweight (154 lbs), middleweight (160 lbs), super middleweight (168 lbs), light heavyweight (175 lbs) and is the current lineal, Ring Magazine and WBC middleweight champion of the world.

Can Caleb Plant beat Canelo Alvarez? 

The match between Caleb and Canelo will take place on 6th November, 2021 at MGM Grand, Las Vegas. This is not a fantasy fight. Caleb and his promoters, Lou DiBella and Eddie Hearn, have reportedly signed on the dotted line for this fight to take place. 

This will be Canelo's first bout of 2021 as he had been previously scheduled to face IBF middleweight champion, Daniel Jacobs (35-2), on May 4 in Las Vegas. 

According to Ring TV, both fighters have agreed to the fight. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said that negotiations are complete and nothing needs to be done anymore. He also added that Alvarez is very excited for this fight.  

Caleb's promoter Eddie Hearn said that he is very excited for this fight and had the following to say about the event:

"Canelo walks into this fight, no matter what happens, as a legend. He's one of the biggest stars in global sport. And Caleb has walked into the top six or seven fighters in world boxing."

It will truly be up to Caleb whether he can dethrone the Mexican legend. "Now, it's up to Caleb if he can do what others have failed to do and take that next step."

I think Caleb has the capability to beat Canelo. He has shown us what he is capable of achieving against the likes of Rogelio Medina, Jose Uzcategui and Maciej Sulecki. Those are some very tough guys to beat. I think this will be a good fight for the fans as both fighters have strong punches.

This will be Canelo's first fight not under the Golden Boy Promotions banner. He is expected to fight for a reduced purse against Plant due to the 'bigger picture' of his upcoming fights with Danny Jacobs, Daniel Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade.

Canelo's promoter Oscar De La Hoya isn't really happy about him fighting someone like Caleb Plant who doesn't have any titles. He thinks that this will take away some shine from Canelo's eventual fights with Jacobs, Jacobs and Andrade if he keeps fighting guys who don't have any titles or belts at stake. "I just think it takes away from the other huge names that are out there right now," De La Hoya said to ESPN Deportes vía ESPN. "There are so many names out there, so many great fighters out there, but at the end of the day, it's Canelo's decision."

What makes Caleb Plant a good match for Canelo Alvarez?

Caleb Plant will present Canelo with a lot of problems. His height, reach, footwork and ability to switch stances are some of the attributes that make him an interesting match up for Alvarez. This is why I think this fight can finally see the end of Canelo's boxing career. Caleb has very fast hands and is very dangerous to fight. He also has good power in both hands which makes him even more dangerous. This will be a very good matchup for the fans.

Do you think this is a risky move for Canelo?

I don't think so. He's already beaten everyone else at middleweight except Gennady Golovkin and Jermall Charlo. There are no other fighters who present him with a real challenge at the weight class. I think his team is just trying to set up some big money fights for him in the future against Jacobs, Andrade and Danny Jacobs. A win over Caleb will definitely boost his chances of securing one of those fights in 2019-2020.

This will be a very interesting match up as both fighters have heavy hands and good footwork. Canelo has shown us that he can box smartly against bigger guys, but Caleb is a big guy himself with fast hands. It should be an entertaining match up for the fans and I think it will go all the way.

I'm going to be bold here and predict a late round knockout for Caleb. He has shown us that he is strong enough to hurt anyone in the middleweight division and Canelo is no exception. I think Caleb will land a big punch on Canelo before the fight ends.

Caleb Plant is an interesting match up for Canelo Alvarez. His speed, footwork and power makes this fight a very good one to watch. I think this will be the last time we see Canelo in the ring as he will probably announce his retirement after this fight which might be the biggest of his career.
